For the past two years, the Trico Changemakers Studio has partnered with the Calgary Foundation for a social innovation lab to explore the question "How we might reimagine and transform how the non-profit sector co-creates thriving and resilient communities?" Social innovation labs are an approach to tackling complex a social, environmental, political and economic challenges and reflects many aspects of service design. Labs involve a diverse group of stakeholders with a through process: understanding and seeing the system, diving into patterns to uncover root issues, learning through doing, ideating, testing, adapting, testing again. This approach presents highest potential solutions through co-creation, collaboration and trust.
My role as the designer in this project has been researching, creating visuals and information packages for community members and mapping information. Additionally, I assist with facilitated workshops with our community to receive feedback and guidance for the design and the direction of the project itself.
